Decorative Arts Society (DARTS) Arts & Culture
Dates: March 2nd 2020 (one day event)
Address: Ditsong Military History Museum Auditorium, Erlswold Way, Saxonwold
Craig Allenby, Acting Director of The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa (NZG), will speak to us about the role of modern day zoos in saving animal species from extinction. Hence his title Zoos as Arks of the Future and his place in the ‘ark’ as a modern day ‘Noah’. The Pretoria Zoo was established in 1899 and is one the world’s leading zoological gardens. It is the eighth largest zoo in the world. Currently the NZG is a facility of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). It serves as a research, education, conservation and tourism platform.
